Purchased this book for a class. It is pretty easy to read and understand. I thought it was worth buying and it wasn't too expensive so overall a good purchase.

Worst Econ Textbook Yet

If looks could deceive .. wait, they can. Sitting down to read a chapter of this book seems like it's going to be a breeze, but instead you find yourself trudging through a jungle filled with quicksand and bear traps. Bold vocabulary words with vague at best definitions, conveniently not included in the summary. The summaries, by the way, are the only parts of this book worth reading. The author has no concept of how to be concise, and instead every sentence in a chapter is in a struggle to be heard as the most important. It gets better .. the instructor slides provided to go along with your 30 page chapter somehow manage to be 120 sides of irrelevant and unclear examples. In short, if your professor thinks that using this book is a good idea, the class is probably going to be a nightmare (one in which you die of boredom). This is coming from a 4.0 Junior.

I love this series

I have been using the All Clear series for years and my students really enjoy and benefit from, not only the idioms, some of which are rather common, but also from the vast array of activities and expansion that is possible with the idioms. I love the error finding exercise and as simple as the prepositions appear to us, they teach things to them. I've really worked on their writing skills by having them devise their own dialogues with the situations suggested and developed their speaking skill using the discussions that evolve from the questions that are posed. What appears to be rather routine in the beginning really produces a greater understanding of culture and use of the selected idioms.

The largest rebellion in the history of Spain's American empire--a conflict greater in territory and costlier in lives than the contemporaneous American Revolution--began as a local revolt against colonial authorities in 1780. Tupac Amaru's Rebellion revisited

This new narrative of the rebellion(s) that shook the southern Andes in the late 18th century deserves a wide readership. Graduate and undergraduate students interested in the Andes, rebellion, or social movements will learn much from Walker's detailed reconstruction of the trajectory of cosmopolitan Andean 'kuraka' Jos� Gabriel Condorcanqui, who along with his wife Micaela Bastidas and other family members led an uprising that called into question the foundations of colonial rule in in Peru. Travelers to Cusco who want to learn more about the local history of this modern tourist destination will recognize landmarks and landscapes in this work's accessible text, and will likely be shocked by the city and region's past of rural resistance and violent repression. Historians will be impressed as well by the breadth of the source material use, both from the archives and printed primary sources. Any future inquiries into Peru during the so-called Age of Revolutions will use this work as a reference and bibliographical guide. In addition to important contributions regarding the near-mythical Micaela Bastidas, Jos� Gabriel's co-leader and spouse, Walker also provides a novel interpretation of the role of Catholicism and the Church in shaping the rebellions that ultimately extended from northern Cuzco to La Paz and beyond in modern Bolivia. (Note: though the Tupac Katari rebellions in Alto Per� have their own sections, this book is strongest when discussing Cuzco and is undoubtedly Peru-centric.) Finally, Walker concludes that the Tupac Amaru rebellion must be considered with comparative attention alongside other revolutions of the Atlantic World (that is, the Haitian, French, and American Revolutions) despite the fact that many have concluded that the Tupac Amaru rebellion simply failed (certainly, things were never the same in the Andes once the dust cleared.) The central difference between those revolutionary processes and that of Tupac Amaru will be evident from reading this book, and scholars will continue to debate the actual impact of the rebellion on contingent historical developments. Future discussions about the crumbling of the colonial order, the formation of the independent Peruvian state, and the (inter)national significance of Tupac Amaru (the symbol of radical, state-led agrarian reform in 1960s Peru and, of course, the name inspiration for seminal rapper Tupac Shakur) should begin, however, with this excellent work of scholarship.

A great work of history should teach the reader something new while suggesting new questions and comparisons. Prof. Walker's masterful narrative of an often-studied episode in Andean history does both. Interpreting all sides of the conflict sensitively and subtly, he succeeds in the tricky task of providing a satisfying read for both professional historians and the broader public.

the definitive history

Chuck Walker's The Tupac Amaru Rebellion is the definitive history of one of the bloodiest rebellions in the hemisphere's history. The writing is engaging without being overdone, the research is both deep and wide, and the argument is clear and provocative. The book reflects Chuck's commitment to making the past accessible to a broad audience. It's a wonderful work of history.
