About the Author
Mary R. Colonna is a Lecturer at the American Language Program of Columbia University. She has previously taught at La Guardia Community College and worked with Columbia Interactive, an online writing program division of Columbia University. She has also done teacher training at Columbia Universitys Teachers College and the American Language Programs TESOL Certificate Program. Mary holds an M.A. in Linguistics from Columbia Universitys Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

delightful amateur sleuth

After the death of her controlling mother and finding a lump on her breast, Cincinnati schoolteacher Sabrina Dunsweeney decided she need a time out to learn what she wanted in life; she traveled to isolated Comico Island. Her thoughts of a carefree island lifestyle proved false and she ended playing adult Nancy Drew and solving the murder of Rollo Wrightley (see ISLAND INTRIGUE). However, instead of R&R on a warm beach, Sabrina becomes the island's first ombudsperson handling disputes between the rising tourist populace and the locals.

Initially the job seemed relatively easy when compared with teaching in inner city Cincinnati; but then Hummers International Inc. arrive on a retreat where they feel they can best hear the Hum of the universe. However, key Hummer spokesman Gilbert Kane is found dead floating without a care or a noise in the marina. While the surviving Hummers fear the loss of the sound due to their potential deaths, Sabrina, as part of her position to keep the tourists contented and coming, investigates the homicide as well as several recently reported break-ins.

Though it sounds so idyllic to run away from ones troubles, Sabrina finds her escape to paradise is wrought with danger as her amateur sleuthing brings her to the attention of a killer who wants to silence her. The story line is fun to follow as the heroine frolics where she does not belong. This is a delightful amateur sleuth tale as Wendy Howell Mills makes her island mysteries filled with intrigue and the blues caused by murder.

Mysterious Island Fun

Misfits and mystery with scattering of humor and fun. Add good characters and entertaining story line. Smoothly written and nicely done it hooked me and I had a hard time putting it down.
The characters are well fleshed out and the location aptly described and given character. The mystery has broad base and many twists. It comes together with a endearing end leaving a nice way to add more later on

Ms. Mills writes a mystery with a witty twist. Her characters are unconventional and her island setting makes it all seem probable.

Sabrina Dunsweeny gave up her dull, boring life as a school teacher and moved to Comico Island with her parakeet to live her dream. There she goes from one job to the next trying to fit in until, finally landing the job of Comico Island Omsbudsman. Her job will be to end the tension between the tourists and the locals, a job that will take nothing short of a miracle as long as Vickie Carroway, the new travel agent, keeps booking people to stay on the island.

Sabrina is described as "being dressed in one of her neon dresses, this one pink and full-skirted, with her lemon colored curls blowing in the breeze." She seemed to be sticking her nose in everywhere, so the town council gave her a reason too.

Her first job was to settle a dispute at the Shell Lodge with a group called the Hummers International. They claimed to hear a constant hum. They wanted privacy for their sessions. She suggested they be taken to one of the remote islands for their sessions.

That job completed satisfactorily she headed off to see what she could learn about the two island break-ins where nothing was taken. It is only while she is off investigating that she learns one of the leaders of Hummers International has been murdered.

This all comes falling on her head. She spends the rest of the time trying to find out who killed Gilbert Kane and almost gets herself killed in the process. All the while she is still tracking the person responsible for the break-ins. An attack on a second person connected to Hummers International leads Sabrina to breaking and entering in her search for clues.

Sabrina has the support of eighty-something Lima Lowry. Lima is a figure on the island. He accompanies her kayaking dressed in a clown costume. It is only when he ends up in the hospital that Sabrina comes to the realization that she knows who is behind the break-ins.

Can she get all the cast members together to unmask the burglar? Is the burglar the killer? If not, who killed Gilbert Kane? Will Sabrina be next?

"Island Blues" is hilarity at its best. Sabrina Dunsweeny is a memorable character because of her flaws. She is insecure, a meddler, and much like a dog with a bone when she is after something. The care she gives to Lima and Bicycle Bob show she is kind hearted. She is the most incompetent sleuth you will ever come across. I can hardly wait to get back to Comico Island to see what kind of trouble she gets into next.

Sprachliche Kommunikation nimmt der Empf�nger zun�chst passiv auf und beginnt dann mit der Bedeutungsdekodierung. Bei Bildkommunikation beginnt die Aktivit�t des Empf�ngers sehr viel fr�her. Er selbst entscheidet, welche Teile eines Bildes er zuerst wahrnimmt und welche sp�ter. Man kann also sagen, dass die sprachliche Kommunikation sendergesteuert ist und die bildhafte Kommunikation empf�ngergesteuert.
Bei der Bildkommunikation wird im ersten Schritt die Botschaft direkt aus dem Zeichen selbst dekodiert. Hierzu hat der Mensch fest verankerte Geb�rden die er instinktiv anwendet. Schickt der Sender ein Signal mit Hilfe von Geb�rdenzeichen, so wird die Botschaft vom Empf�nger unmissverst�ndlich angenommen. In Kinderzeichnungen beispielsweise findet man h�ufig linienartige Sonnenstrahlen. Hier wird die Linie als Symbolik daf�r verwendet, dass die Sonne w�rmend auf uns Menschen strahlt.

Die Imageryforschung geht davon aus, dass der Mensch �u�ere Einfl�sse durch verschiedene Verarbeitungskan�le aufnimmt. Einerseits geschieht dies durch verbale, andererseits durch nonverbale Kommunikation. Der Rezipient gewinnt folglich verschiedene Eindr�cke woraus innere Bilder im Kopf generiert werden. Good and bad...

This is a TEXTBOOK, designed for the classroom and being taught by a teacher. The course content is excellent in a classroom setting.
There is NO translation or explanation of the new vocabulary at all, which makes it very tedious for me. A beginner student would find it extremely frustrating.

If I were in a classroom setting I would rate this book as a 5.
If they included translations and explanations I would also give it a 5.

But for someone who wants to learn on their own, I give it a 1.

Astrology of the Seers is an excellent introduction to Jyotish, as it is very clearly written, with elegance, and a poetic touch. As usual Vamadeva Sastri lives up to his name, and his book shows it. this is a very "spiritualised" approach to Jyotish, and was very helpful for me to get a foundation in seeing the Grahas as "spiritual beings" or Devas...Vamadeva's scholarship and grasp of the subtle is simply amazing, the mind is illumined by his fine writing, and the heart is melted in Divine Love. all i can say is thank you, thank you, thank you!! When I signed up for Brendan Feeleys' introductory
course in jyotish (vedic astrolgy), this was the textbook.
Need I say more?
OK, for the person new to vedic astrology, this
is probably the best first step.
It covers all the basics; the philosophy behind it,
the planetary significators,signs,houses, aspects,lordships,planetary periods (dashas), harmonic charts, introductions to medical astrology & remedial astrology, and a bevy of sample charts.
Deep concise and fun! Worth every penny.

A lot of information

I am new to Vedic astrology, but this book has really captured it's essence and given me a good perspective into it. It is so cluttered with the amount of important issues that need to be covered it kind of leaves me in the dust, wondering if I missed the green light telling me when to go. Not only that I am to understand this only covers so much and that there is even more to learn, i.e. Nakshatras, ect. Apart from the devastating amount of inspiration I get from just reading this book, I feel I will read it again to fully understand what this book offers on this subject, before reading other books on this topic.

I bought this cute little book as a first Easter gift for my daughter. The story is very simple and cute without being too heavy handed with the religion. It ends with an emphasis on being kind with each other, making it perfect for very young children. The pictures are very cute and cartoon-y with lots of pastel colors. The board book construction is perfect for kids who are teething. We'll definitely be taking this book out again for Easter this year.

I thought I might get some good information with reading the sample but a good portion of the "book" is how to resell other Fiverr's Amazon reviews and fake ~likes~ on Facebook, etc. Realize that fake "likes" on Facebook can get a business or individual banned from Facebook. This is a marketing NoNo!!!! Honestly, when I see fake book reviews on Amazon, I get so disgusted. Reviews are for people that actually READ the book. Something that cannot be done in 10 minutes. Only tidbit of info is encouraging the reader to try and find passive income. Poof.. that is was it. A teaser to get you to buy the next article. So I just saved you $2.99.

I'm sure they're all honest, unsolicited opinions offered by legitimate purchasers. Skip this book if you have a shred of moral decency. Tadeusz Stolarski is a Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at Brunel University, UK. This book is the best I've read for understanding ANSYS Classic with hands-on examples. It starts with an introduction to FEM and then moves to practical examples. For sure you should get a paper copy for it!

PhD, LMSW Brene Brown

Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW is a research professor at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work who has spent the past 10 years studying vulnerability, courage, authenticity, and shame. She is a nationally renowned speaker and has won numerous teaching awards, including the college’s Outstanding Faculty Award. Her groundbreaking work has been featured on PBS, NPR, and CNN. Her 2010 TEDxHouston talk on the power of vulnerability is one of most watched talks on TED.com. Her most recent TED talk, “Listening to Shame,” was released in March 2012.

Brené is the author of The Gifts of Imperfection and I Thought It Was Just Me (but it isn’t). She is also the author of Connections, a psychoeducational shame resilience curriculum that is being facilitated across the nation by mental health and addiction professionals.

Brené’s current research focuses on wholeheartedness in families, schools, and organizations. She lives in Houston with her husband and their two young children.
