By proliferating dysfunctions, constraining decision makers' discretion, shaping priorities, and causing delays, corruption control - no less than corruption itself - has contributed to the contemporary crisis in public administration. An academic study of the failure of anticorruption efforts

This is an excellent book. Its academic / sociological approach may put off some lay readers, but that would be too bad. The subject, and the message, are both very important. In many ways, this book is similar to "The Appearance of Impropriety: How the Ethics Wars Have Undermined American Government, Business and Society," but although this book is somewhat less accessible to general readers it is certainly stronger from a social-science standpoint. An excellent book, well worth reading for anyone interested in why repeated efforts to stamp out political corruption have borne such mixed (at best) results.

About the Author
Janet M. Cramer, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Communication and Journalism Department at the University of New Mexico, where she teaches a variety of courses in media studies, journalism, and communication at the undergraduate and graduate level. Her research focuses on the cultural studies of media, including food, gender studies, and media history. She has written a history of media focusing on the cultural and intellectual traditions that have guided media development in the United States, titled Media/History/Society: A Cultural History of U.S. Media (2009).
Carlnita P. Greene, PhD, is an assistant professor and Director of the Communication & Rhetoric program at Nazareth College of Rochester. Her research can be broadly defined as the intersection of rhetorical theory and popular culture. She has previously published on subjects as diverse as food culture and the media, identity and social style, rhetorical theory in the twenty-first century, and popular culture and pedagogy.
Lynn M. Walters, M.S., is founder and Executive Director of Cooking with Kids, Inc., an award-winning non-profit organization that engages elementary school children in hands-on experience with fresh, affordable foods from diverse cultures. You really have to want to be hungry for information to buy this one

A series of academically written essays which is for sure to disappoint anyone looking for easy-to-ingest insights. There might be a nugget or two in there for the enthusiast. But expect to wade through the jungle of confusing language. I'd recommend the editor pass along Steven Pinker's Sense of Style for the essayists. Good writing does not have to be intentionally complex or alienating. Yes, the ideas are valid. Just tripped up in tortured sentence structures. Come on. Even the hoi polloi deserve a break.

Quite useless

This really an over-promising, under-delivering book on helping people prepare and get a job in private equity. I bought this book hoping to understand the enigmatic world of private equity recruiting, however was not able to gleam much insight other than the "should have close to 4.0 GPA from a top school", etc., stuff that people already know.

The book does not give any strategies, tactics or real anecdotal evidence on how people usually break into the field, providing only a few resumes and some general stuff. It makes one wonder if the company, Glocap, really knows about how to help people get in, or if they're trying to save their knowhow for a VIP version of the book.

I did eventually get a job with a PE shop, and what helped was searching all over the net for various recruiting resources, from sample questions, to current trends etc.. Preparing for these interviews is definitely crucial, though not necessarily with this book.

It is quite comprehensive,and providing a ball park of the private equity industry. However, It would be nicer if it can provide more information concerning the companies and ideas regardig private equity in Europe

This new edition has large color photos throughout. Useful tables and growth curves, etc are also scattered throughout the text. The photos are large, clear and well labeled with labels and arrows. In a few instances the photos are enlarged slightly too much and as a result are slightly pixelated. But most are clear with appropriate resolution. The text is well written, understandable, and the font is easy to read. Because of the large size of the photos, often figures are not on the same page as the topic being discussed in the text, so some flipping back and forth may be necessary. Detailed instructions for autopsy procedure are included as well as chapters on pathologic findings. Overall this book nicely supplements other larger textbooks of pediatric pathology. It fills the void between autopsy books, pediatric surgical pathology books, and even embryology books. I recommend it to all pathologists and pathology residents/fellows.
