Gerald F. Kominski, PhD, is professor, Department of Health Policy and Management in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and director of UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. He is co-developer of the California Simulation of Insurance Markets (CalSIM) model currently being used to estimate eligibility and enrollment in health insurance exchanges in California and Hawaii.

Informative and good read

I used the book for a course at UCLA for my Masters in Public Health. The book is very informative of the health care system and how is it changing with ACA. Additionally, it is comprehendible so the reader is able to get a solid grasp of what's happening. Definitely would recommend it.

• liberalization of corporation law--outside directors, use of stock options, hostile mergers, poison pill legislation and guidelines;

• the new system of lay/professional judges;

• the liberalization of the rules under which parties to litigation may be required to produce documents previously off limits;

• certain categories of “indirect discrimination” and the limitations on conduct that can be so defined;

• the complete revamping of the education system for lawyers;

• the new Labour Court designed to settle employer/employee disputes more quickly and effectively;

• the increased extent of a news reporter’s privilege not to disclose sources;

• legislation designed to protect spouses from spousal abuse;

• new criminal law on police interrogation techniques;

• growth in judicial review including Constitutional and Administrative cases; and

• family law—surrogacy, adoption, international custody and differences in the definition of “spouse” for various purposes.

Although the alteration of the legal landscape in Japan is highly visible, the author does not hesitate to raise questions as to how far-reaching the changes really are. In almost every branch of the new Japanese legal practice he uncovers ways in which laws and judicial rulings are closely qualified and are likely to present challenges in any given case. He reminds the reader in each chapter that “what you see may not be what you get.” For this reason, and for its comprehensive coverage, this second edition is sure to gain new adherents as the best-informed practical guide for lawyers with dealings in Japan.

Witty, well-written comparison of US and Japanese law

This book is a well-written comparison of the U.S. and Japanese legal systems. Goodman spends each chapter discussing a different topic, from contracts to religion . He uses U.S. law to familiarize the reader in that particular legal field. Goodman is particularly interested in exposing the differences between the systems and how there are deeper meanings and interpretations in Japanese law than we might expect based on the text. For example, Japanese judges are much more inclined to take into account a defendant's economic and family status than a U.S. judge. Very interesting book for anybody studying comparative law.

Good EAI Book

If you are looking for a general guide on EAI, this is the book. However, there are some areas where it goes flying over very important concepts. I recommend it if you are and IT Architect trying to understand the general principles of this technology but if you are a "doer" you will be dissapointed.

Intermediate-level in detail, up-to-date

This book has found a place alongside one of my other favorites: "B2B Application Integration" by David S. Linthicum. Like Linthicum's book this one covers a wide range of EAI topics at a high level. However, this book is more up to date and drills down deeper in many topic areas, including more depth in implementation and deployment issues.
I especially liked the chapters on messaging Infrastructures, workflow management and component technologies. One note about the book's approach to components: it does not go deeply into component-based software engineering, but instead covers components from a request broker perspective. Moreover, a large part of the components discussion revolved around CORBA, which is a good conceptual approach but has yet to be widely embraced. The chapters titled "Ensuring Enterprise System Security" and "Supporting Enterprise Intelligence" are also valuable because they reflect contemporary concerns and issues.
The chapter on XML is a bit weaker than the corresponding discussion in "B2B Application Integration" by David S. Linthicum. Linthicum provides a more balance view in his book, especially regarding when not to use XML.
One additional feature that I like about this book is the accompanying web site. The links to specifications, organizations and related material point to a comprehensive collection of resources that not only augment the book, but are invaluable in their own right.
If you're looking for low-level details you will probably not like this book; however, if you want an intermediate-level, panoramic view of EAI this book is an excellent resource.

good book but too high level

I found the book useful in learning concepts but the level of detail was not what I expected. I prefer books that illustrate concepts with detailed examples that get more complicated as you read on. Too much attention is devoted to CORBA and not enough to mapping distributed architecture concepts to newer technologies (J2EE, WebServices). XML material seems a little weak.

This book might help readers land a better job, but it's more relevant for those who are ready to detach from an ego-driven life filled with quick fixes of happiness and step into a more authentic, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling life. His core teachings speak to tapping into a universal source of energy that can also be called the "power of intention." He calls people who are consciously co-creating with this energy source "connectors" and describes them as "individuals who have made themselves available for success...They don't say With my luck things won't work out. Instead, you’re more likely to hear something like, I intend to create this and I know it will work out." Connectors are also committed to Dyer's "seven faces of intention"--creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity, which he speaks to throughout the book. For this very popular speaker and bestselling author of the classic Your Erroneous Zones, intention is not dogged determination, but an inner awareness "that exists in the universe as an invisible force of energy." This conviction, gleaned from Dyer's professional experiences, metaphysical studies and contacts with personal mentors, has allowed him to link to the force of intention and use it to enhance his life and work. For Dyer, there are seven faces, or energy fields, of intention: creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, abundance and receptivity. Drawing on a variety of spiritual traditions and gurus, Dyer first describes how to surmount the barriers that may get in the way of connecting to this power, such as negative thinking, relying on the opinion of others or retaining a controlling ego. Although Dyer's message is deeply sympathetic, his conception of the fields of insight reads like a familiar mixture of Eastern and Western philosophies wrapped up in a new theoretical package. In a chapter on living a stress-free life, for example, he recommends silently repeating the words "I want to feel good"-i.e., practicing a form of meditation-and elsewhere advises practicing detachment, a cornerstone of Buddhism. Another tactic, using forgiveness as a means to achieve peaceful relations with difficult family members, has recently found a wealth of expression. A gift for yourself.

Truth be told, I'm taking my time with this book. It is so rich with lessons that I read a page and think on it for a few months before moving on. It's full of gorgeous illustrations and beautiful, compassionate wisdom. Beautiful gift for yourself or someone close to you who would be open to hearing more from Wayne or is into metaphysics.

All my life I've always read the last chapter first ...

All my life I've always read the last chapter first in every book I've ever read. So when Dr. Dyer said that very thing in the preface I knew this book was going to change my life. Applying these techniques to my every day life has been a game changer. No need to get in the normal day trappings of life because now I raise my vibrations to rise above it. I have bought this book three more times in hopes to change other mindsets as well. If you want a book to change how you look at things and live a more positive life.....this is the book!!!

A Challenge

The book is a challenge because it is not how most of us think. It is NOT about the power of positive thinking. It is much deeper than being an optimist or a pessimist. It is a way of living that is determined by how you think and how you act on your thoughts. Some people describe it as a life force or a sixth sense. In a very real sense he is writing about spiritual formation and development. He writes that when you are aligned with God all things are possible,but he never mentions faith or religion, the traditional approach to seeking God. I would not interpret that to mean he is not religious. He just uses a different language. You will spend a lot of time learning to understand his meaning of "vibrations." I think the more common term is "wave lengths."

About the Author
Keng C. Wu, a native of Chiayi, Dalin, Taiwan, received a B.S. degree from Chiaotung University, Taiwan, in 1969 and a M.S. degree from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in 1973.

He was a lead member technical staff of Lockheed Martin, Moorestown, NJ; a well recognized expert in high reliability power supply, power systems, and power electronics product design, including all component selection, board layout, modeling, large scale system dynamic study, prototype, testing and specification verification; and an author of four books, “Pulse Width Modulated DC-DC Converters” Jan. 1997; “Transistor Circuits for Spacecraft Power System” Nov. 2002; “Switch-mode Power Converters: Design and Analysis” Elsevier, Academic Press, Nov. 2005; “Power Rectifiers, Inverters, and Converter” Nov. 2008. He also holds a dozen U.S. patents, was awarded “Author of the Year” twice (2003 and 2006 Lockheed Martin), and presented a 3-hour educational seminar at IEEE APEC-2007.

Fantastic!!

In everyday life, you are selling. It doesn't matter if you are trying to convince your boss, or your spouse, of an idea or product, you are selling. And Tom Hopkins is a master. He teaches you how to get your points across without being pushy or overbearing, and how to overcome objections. The only way his principles do not work, is because you are not using them. I highly recommend buying this whether you think you are in sales or not.

Good coaching - for anyone

This is more than just about sales. This is about mental toughness, integrity and being ethical with other people. If you have ever had a pushy sales person who left a bad taste in your mouth, Tom Hopkins is not that. We are all selling something. Ourselves in a job interview, a car in the want ads, a house, whatever. Tom Hopkins encourages sales people to have integrity. I like that he makes point that we cannot be a "good" sales person if we don't care about people. Tom Hopkins changed my very scewed view of being a sales person to seriously considering it as a viable option.

I like the way Tom talks here about what worlds no to say and what to say when you selling any products. Very helpful and I will buy Tom Hopkins video or book again. I will also tell you to buy the master closing book. I read lots of selling strategy,and I fund that one of the best book is the secret of master closer because it tell you the different between order taker,customer service and closer, very good book on closing the deal.
