An excellent approach for understanding consumers

The book deals with a relatively little publicised method for understanding consumer decision making, called means-end approach. The main idea is that consumers make decisions to solve problems or to obtain desired consequences, which are relevant because of their perceived relation with the goals or values that are salient in the decision context. This approach has some similitudes with the utility function in macroeconomics.
The approach has 5 steps: 4 framing issues which define the context of a defined decision and determining the reasons of relevance:
1. Identify the choice set of alternatives- the triad (Brand A, B, C)
2. Eliciting Choice Criteria (A preffered to B preffered to C)
3. Identifying Equities (basis for brand equity)
4. Identifying Disequities
5. Understanding Personal Relevance
6. Grounding in context (not linked to particular brands)
The book also introduces a personal interviewing procedure called laddering.
Considering the applications in defining marketing strategy for a brand, I hghly recommand this book to all marketing professionals who, like myself, will find this book illuminating

This books discusses the Means-End approach in great detail. It includes examples which is very useful for anyone who is not familiar with the subject.

I must also state that, this book is the only one available freely if you intend to study this particular topic.(I searched the whole web during my MBA studies and found this only.)

You should also go through online journal databases to find out about various researches done based on the topic.

As good as smart phone cameras have gotten, they still aren’t capable of matching the digital photography a good DSLR can deliver.

Interchangeable lens cameras also provide more problem solving options. A smart phone camera may be able to make decent images under perfect conditions, but when those conditions deteriorate, look out. DSLRs can capture images of things that smart phone cameras just can’t. They also offer much better image quality than do smart phone cameras with their much, much smaller imaging sensors.

I love taking pictures

I love taking pictures, especially about nature, I love to take pictures of the beach, mountains and rice fields. I already owned a DLSR camera, but honestly, I still do not know how to use its other functions. I always use the auto function. That is the reason why I downloaded this book, hoping that I can get some tips. And I was not wrong, there are tips and guides, especially about the shutter details, the tone of the picture, black and white, and so on. I also appreciate the effort of the author on how he explained the details that a beginner like me can understand. I enjoyed reading the book.

Great value, easy to follow along, step by step with good diagrams

This is a great book for me! I've never done origami but always wanted to learn. I tried some online videos but they went fast and I couldn't always follow along. With the book, however, it is easy- this book has step by step instructions with a picture of each step showing you a dotted line where to make your fold.

The designs in the book are pretty simple and I've been able to do several of them. Once I get a bit better, I might get a more advanced book, but this one will continue to be useful to me for a while yet. Well worth the low cost.

Mastering jQuery Mobile framework is a must to web developers

Maybe the first question is to ask ourselves is why we need to learn jQuery Mobil? There are so many frameworks around that we, for sure, can learn and be proficient in just only a few of them. As the mobile environment came to stay at least for the rest of our professional life, we will need to be professionally productive on the one more popular, supported, flexible, powerful and complete. At this moment this means to use jQuery and jQuery Mobile.
To master a framework is hard work. To discover the tricks to get our goals in an easier way takes a long time. Our path began studying the jQuery Mobile site docs, excellent and huge. Then we went to our first book on the theme to read and mentally listen the mastermind behind it. As the subject is wide we will travel a long way on books to really be a jQuery Mobile Master. It is not a short way!

This book is packed with hardly won advices. The author guides us on setting up an environment and tools we need to just open a new file; XAAMP, jQuery, Aptana, CDNs. We continue with jQuery ThemeRoller and Screenfly.
You will remember your HTML5 Responsive Web Design, media queries, Modernizr, geolocation and web storage, WURFL and RESS; my God do I really need to learn all of them?
All of this was an intro, beginning on chapter four and an 80-page tour we start to use jQuery Mobile framework on a hands-on and carefully crafted Project, yes a project, not just short code examples. Reading is easy, typing and testing ad infinitum is what gives us power, happiness and glory.
The craft is carefully dosed going form opening a new page to geolocation and dealing with PHP and WebSQL. The author is very optimistic thinking that we apprentices after 8 chapters are ready to bite a hard ball and go straight on node.js
To master jQuery Mobile you really need more than this book and many more projects. But yes, this is a good book!

Errors in the text/code. For instance, in Chapter 2, under "Creating a Theme," the order of the required css files is reversed. The publisher does not list the book on its site so downloading/submitting errata is not possible. In addition, in some cases the tools employed in the book have evolved to newer versions, e.g., Modernizr, making it difficult to actually build the application.

This book offers an advanced guide to developing with jQuery Mobile, using the latest versions of the jQuery Mobile and jQuery libraries. The book presents real world examples and assumes some knowledge of CSS3, HTML5 and Javascript (jQuery). Examples are given for both multi-page and single-page templates. There is also an excellent guide to creating web apps with Cordova, both for iOS and Android. It's a good source of reference for responsive layout design with JQM (works fine with desktops too). Also welcome is the coverage of HTML5 features using modernizr and Wurfl for device detection. The data examples are PHP-centric, but are clearly written and easy to understand. More advanced is the discussion of getting jQuery Mobile to play nicely with Node.js, Express and Jade templates. The book also offers a very useful discussion on 'best practice' in mobile design and delivery. The examples provided are managed using Aptana studio, but this isn't required and the complete source code is available for download anyway. All in all the book offers an extensive coverage of the practical possibilities of JQM and one I'd highly recommend.

Fantastic guide - this one makes sense

I've been playing drums for about 4 years and I never really knew how to tune my set. I bought a few different books about it and the only one that really made sense to me is Drum Tuning. I can understand what it's about, unlike some of the others I have. I really like that it shows me how to experiment and encourages me to experiment with different sounds. There's no attitude like "this is the way to do it because I say so" and I like that it's OK to go after "my sound". And now that my drums sound so much better, I think I'm starting to sound like a better drummer! I bought the Kindle version but I think I'm going to buy the real book also.

I'm a guitar player but I've been playing drums for a few years. I've always had a hard time tuning. I knew what I wanted them to sound like but didn't know how to do it. Now I can get the sound I've been looking for, thanks to Drum Tuning. I showed this to drummer friend and he thought it was spot on. I recommend this book to everyone who plays drums.

Featured Recipe: Quick Cucumber and Chive Kimchi (Oyi Buchu Gutjori)

Prep time: 20 minutes

Yield: 5 cups

Ingredients

• 8 Kirby, 10 Persian, or 2 large Japanese or English cucumbers, unpeeled
• 2 tablespoons kosher salt (preferably Diamond Crystal)
• 2 tablespoons Korean chili pepper flakes (gochugaru)
• 2 teaspoons anchovy sauce (optional)
• 1-1/2 teaspoons sugar
• 1/4 cup Korean or regular chives, cut into 2-inch pieces
• 2 tablespoons thinly sliced onion

Directions

Halve the cucumbers lengthwise, then cut them into 1/8-inch thin diagonal slices. In a medium bowl, mix the cucumbers with the salt until well combined. Set aside for 5 to 7 minutes until cucumbers sweat and glisten. They will lose the some firmness, but should still have a little crunch as you don't want them to be too soft.

Place the cucumbers in a colander and rinse, then pat them dry. In a medium bowl, combine the cucumbers with the chili pepper flakes, anchovy sauce, and sugar and allow to combine for 10 minutes. Add the chives and onion and toss to combine. Eat immediately, or refrigerate and consume within 2 to 3 days.

About the Author
LAURYN CHUN is the founder of Mother-in-Law’s Kimchi, a line of artisan kimchi based on an original recipe from Jang Mo Jip (“Mother-in-Law’s House”), her mother’s beloved restaurant in Garden Grove, California. From her mother’s kitchen to work in the fine dining and wine industries, Chun’s deep love for food and wine led her from the Rhône Valley and Spain to Italy’s hills, where she worked harvesting grapes. While living in New York City, she recognized the beauty of Korea’s tradition of handcrafted kimchi, which inspired her to launch Mother-in-Law’s Kimchi in 2009.

Excellent and thorough! Author is a great teacher!

This book is way more than I expected. For a single-topic cookbook I anticipated a straightforward compilation of kimchi recipes. But this book far exceeded my expectations: The author has a very personable style of writing. By the time I was done reading through the pages the first time, I felt a certain satisfaction that is hard to explain. My senses were heightened and my brain was working through the logistics of how soon I could make a trip to my favorite Asian market. And I was wondering if it was too late to plant Red Holland peppers in my garden this year.

If you thoroughly read this woman's instructions, you will have no problem making kimchi. If you have a fear of fermentation, it will be alleviated with the full-coverage instructions and tips in this book. And the information provided is smooth-flowing and easy to digest. The book provides so much worthwhile information, that after you have a few recipes under your belt, you will be experimenting with other ingredients and flavors to create your own signature kimchi.

The recipes area all encompassing; some are for fast, immediate salad-type kimchi; some for Spring and Summer vegetables, and some for winter vegetables. Plus there are instructions for the different "cuts" of the vegetables, and some recipes that keep the vegetable somewhat intact and some recipes for square-chopped veggies.

Pictures are of excellent quality and very helpful, too. Pantry items necessary to make kimchi are relatively few and are fully explained. Both English and Korean names are provided, so it will be easy to find them at your local Asian market or online.

I picked this book up at my library, but today I ordered my own copy. If you are at all interested in eating kimchi, this is a book that has great value and will quickly earn its space on your bookshelf.

The GO-TO book for Kimchi

I own a many, many fermenting and kimchi making books and this has become my go-to for all things "Kimchi", an all-in-one book source for the beginner and more experienced alike. The signature kimchi recipe (Mother-in-Law's Kimchi - my recommended 'gateway recipe' for a life time of devotion to kimchi, as is what happened to me) is delicious but so are many other recipes, too, depending on your produce, the season, your fermenting needs and taste buds I even grew perilla in my garden to add this year - a very good idea it turned out! I appreciate the "Cooking with Kimchi" section for using over-ripe kimchi, which, if you make as much as I do, is handy. Kimchi never really goes bad but after awhile it just is too pungent to be eaten 'raw', but just right for other savoury dishes like soups, pancakes, fried rice and beyond. It's a wonderful resource, both visually interesting and compelling, and fun. Enjoy!

One of my new favorite cookbooks!

Wow! That was my first reaction after browsing through the book when it got here. I had no idea that there were so many different kinds of Kimchee. My son told me he didn't like Kimchee but I made the instant one with cucumbers and he dived right in. Then my hubby hounded me all evening about could I do it with this veggie and that veggie. So, I've made several of the recipes in the book and every one has turned out delicious.
My biggest problem now is how to keep them out of the crocks on the counter while I wait for them to ferment.
So happy I found this book it has added another dimension to our food.
Well written and very educational without trying to be. Recipes are very easy to follow and just about fool proof.
