Amazing book!

I couldn't stop reading from the beginning. So many twists and turns. The plot is intricate and I was at any moment waiting for Cromfield to jump out at them. I wish that the book was longer, but the story was written really well and I can't wait to get my hands on Twisted Together. I would definitely recommend this book and the series so go and get the free book Rae of Hope!

You want to jump in with super powers of your own and help take him out? Yeah, that feeling. Can't WAIT to see the end of this. I hope the antagonist is robbed of his dreams, robbed of his power and robbed of his future. A nice dark dungeon for the rest of his life, damp and full of mold with no way to restore himself. Yeah, that feeling!!!

Whoever has ears, let them hear

This profoundly important anthology covers, and connects, both the temporal and spatial ramifications of our transformation of the Earth, and shines light onto many forgotten (hidden? missed? ignored? covered up? silenced? -- all of these seem apt descriptors) writers, environmental disasters, voices, perspectives, and instances of corporate (and national) greed. Much of the contemporary writing on environmental topics, at least the books that make it to 'main stream' consciousness are written from a, sadly but unsurprisingly, small number of perspectives; usually by white academics to a predominantly white audience. While Sharing the Earth includes important writings by Henry David Thoreau and similar others, the great strength of this work is that it loudly reinforces that the voices that have been speaking and writing and screaming, sometimes for decades, cannot be and should not be ignored. The editors say in the introduction that environmental justice, as a movement, seeks to merge the somewhat nature-first view of environmentalists and the somewhat humans-first, nature-second view of human rights advocates. The point then of this book is to highlight just how connected the two views actually are, and, I believe, to spur both on to be more than the sum of their parts. I submit that it is resoundingly successful at accomplishing this.

There are too many thought-provoking, convicting, and action-spurring selections in this anthology to list all the ones that impacted me. I will, however, point out a sub-theme that resonated; I am an environmental chemist, and a chemistry professor, and so I appreciated the selections with a chemistry undercurrent. In a class I teach on environmental chemistry, we routinely discuss the tragedy of the globalization of waste disposal (in that the rich world tends to export waste, thereby never having to a actually confront the rampant consumerism that creates that waste in the first place), so I read Steve Chimombo’s story “Rubbish Dump” with a new eyes to the I-knew-this-but-rarely-thought-about-it impact of our waste streams on the people we subject them to. As a character in the story (who collects trash from the local international airport) says,

“As I sit here, Russia, America, Hong Kong, England are all in my grasp. They all find their way into this rubbish dump.”

Likewise, Rita Wong’s poem “sort by day, burn by night” speaks of the tragedy of e-waste and should remind us to think hard about the products we so casually dispose of; it tells a story of the toxic materials in this waste that poison the land and poison the people (in this case in Guangdong, China) who scavenge/reclaim it. And the excerpt, "Boat Ceremony", from Ishimure Michiko speaks about corporate malfeasance and the secret, illegal dumping of industrial waste. The story is beautifully written, even while telling of a profound tragedy.

Story after story forces the reader to confront, understand, and question their relationship to the environment and to the rest of the world. From Malawi, China, India, the Caribbean, to the forgotten corners of America; nowhere is immune and everyone is important. Hear the stories, heed the words.

About the Author
David and Sarah discovered the memory arts while studying Stage Magic. The duo regularly performs feats of memory involving the first 500 digits of pi, 3 shuffled and memorized decks of cards, and long, long lists of randomly called out objects.�

Sarah and David are eclectic in their pursuits to say the very least. David divides his time between berry farming and writing/illustrating comics (producing such works as THE RISE and the award-nominated KARMA SPRINGS). The issues discussed are not new--meditation, active listening, intuition, visualization, biofeedback, martial arts, and psychokinesis, to name a few. What is unusual is to learn how much the military has been looking into these issues and to have them all in one place. Included with a discussion of each are exercises for improving individual skills, examples of how they worked in the military, and how they might help in business. Given the popularity books that adopt military strategies for business--such as Wess Roberts's best-selling Secrets of Attila the Hun (Peregrine Pub., 1985)--this work might gain a large readership.

Fascinating

This book was the first to reveal some experimental work in the field of "Enhancing Human Performance" carried out by the US military & intelligence community. A significant core of the book, for me, was the previously classified material on "The Jedi Project", which utilised NLP and similar advanced learning technologies to train soldiers in pistol shooting, with dramatic results. Other chapters deal with topics which have since become more widely, and controversially known , such as Remote Viewing. All in all The Warrior's Edge displays a fascinating junction of military practicality and new age beliefs.

Skills and Techniques for every situation!

The book while explaining cutting edge reserarch in the military, really is an excellent book about developing the skills and technqiues on how to expertly master new skills, influence others skillfully and ethically, goal-setting, and many other topics. Very unique information, using a lot of neuro-linguistic programming. Really enjoyed the chapter on reality mapping, in helping me to understand that other people interpret the world according to their own assumptions and values. Great book. Highly recommend, because it's not about killing, but living your life and achieving your full potential.

Ahead of it's time!

This is an interesting book on the subject of enhancing human performance. While the book was geared toward the field of business, it has direct applications to other fields such as self-defense and martial arts. Although the title is about "psychic" techniques for performance enhancement, it is not a book of esoteric study. Instead it is a scientific study of various methods of enhancing the mind and the body through non-traditional training techniques.

While there are other books that cover some of these techniques, this is the only title I have seen that covers them in such detail. I would recommend this title to anyone interested in improving themselves. It's too bad that such a great title is out of print.
