I have several Thesauruses,or Thesauri,if you prefer, beside me for reference,but I couldn't pass this one up when I saw it.I is,to say the least;excellent,first-rate,top-noych,exceptional,outstanding,superalitive,superb,prime,choice,select,supreme,matchless,sterling,fine,admirable,estimable,worthy,eminent,distinguished,great,splendid,brilliant,wonderful,marvellous,super,ace,brill,smashing,terrific,fantastic,mega,wicked;as opposed to being inferior,lesser,insignificant,unimportant,lowly,humble,menial,substandard,mediocre,poor,bad, naff,shoddy,crummy,slipshod,ropy,second-rate,second-class,low-quality,unsatisfactory,indifferent,imperfect,or substandard.
Being published in England,you will note a few words that are very (bloody) British.Just to show you why more than one Thesaurus is worth having around,one of my other favorite ones,"The Synonym Finder" by J.I.Rodale;gives these additional synonyms for excellent;capital,tiptop,snookum,extraordinary,very remarkable,bang-up,ripping, super,transcendent,sovereign,classic,fine,worthy,notable,;and then there's eximious that is archaic.Next,I could turn to "Webster's", "Collins", "Family Word Finder" by Reader's Digest,where you can add,tremendous,superfine,matchless,peerless,preeminent,exemplary,aces,and tops. Now, to add a little spice;lets go to "Cassell's Dictionary of Slang" by Jonathon Green and we'll find only extremely good or exciting;while if we go to a word like s--t,we will find literally hundreds of synonym and combinations thereof;but then again,it is a "Dictionary of Slang".
So; there you go ,English is an excellent language,so have fun with it and your Thesaurus.
By the way,all this reminds me of the fellow who ran into that great Irish writer,James Joyce on the street in Dublin.He asked him what he had been doing.James told him I spent the afternoon writing a sentence.He asked James if he had trouble finding the right words."No", replied James,"the right order".I guess a Thesaurus isn't the answer to everything,but at least it's a good start.

These volumes, the fourth and fifth, complete the series of biographical sketches of students at Princeton University (the College of New Jersey in colonial times). They cover pivotal years for both the nation and the College. In 1784, the war with England had just ended. Nassau Hall was still in a shambles following its bombardment, and the College was in financial distress. It gradually regained financial and academic strength, and the Class of 1794 graduated in the year of the death of President John Witherspoon, one of the most important early American educators.

The introductory essay by John Murrin, editor of the series since 1981, explores the postwar context of the College. The two volumes contain biographies of 354 men who attended with the classes of 1784 through 1794 and two other students whose presence at the College in earlier years has only now been demonstrated. During these years Princeton accounted for about an eighth of all A.B. degrees granted in the United States. It was the young republic's most "national" college, although it had nearly lost its New England constituency and was instead beginning to draw nearly 40 percent of its students from the South.

Romance, passion, intrigue, humor, haunting...what's not to love?

This book was so utterly entertaining, delightful, and heartwarming that I gave it five stars for the sheer story-telling pleasure it gave me.

Anthony Peardew, a successful writer, has been a keeper of lost things for 40 years - ever since the day he lost a keepsake given to him by his beloved fiancée, Therese -- the same day she died in a tragic accident. In searching for his keepsake, he finds other lost things. He catalogues them carefully in hopes of reuniting them with their owners. They inspire him to write stories.

Laura, Anthony's housekeeper of several years, is lost herself after a painful divorce. When she unexpectedly inherits Anthony's home, she also inherits his lost things (with Anthony's request to try to find their owners), his gardener, Freddy, and his special neighbor Sunshine, a Downs syndrome teenager with special gifts of intuition and extrasensory perception.

Threaded skillfully into the narrative with effective use of flashback is the story of Eunice, who met the love of her life—Bomber—on the same day Anthony's fiancée was killed. Eunice and Bomber's own heartwarming story leads inexorably to a satisfying intersection with Laura and her lost things.

I came to love each of these deliciously quirky characters and was loathe to leave them when the book ended.

I didn't receive a free copy of this book. I loved it!! I was sad when I noticed how few pages were left because I wanted more of the stories. I highly recommend this to all hopeless romantics and lovers of a spiritual world.

About the Author

Joseph Mayo practices architecture in the Pacific Northwest where he concentrates on materiality, technology and form for a regionally appropriate building culture. He has worked on a variety of building types, ranging from schools, student housing, university buildings and hospitals. Working with a City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) Advisory Committee, Joseph led an investigation to use wood in applications that go beyond current building codes. He has also been a jury member for wood design awards, served as Regional Associate Director for the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Young Architect Forum (YAF) Chair at AIA Seattle, and has assisted in teaching courses and served on architecture critiques at universities around the Pacific Northwest.

A comprehensive global tour of wood building systems.

Mayo's attempt to weave case studies of wood building systems from every corner of the world is astoundingly successful in convincing the architectural world of the approach's modernity and validity. He considers not just the environmental implications of the methods, but also the building code challenges, fire safety, structural considerations, and other critical topics in his analysis.

This book should be required-reading in any course on modern structural concepts or construction materials for architects and engineers.

Revived interest in wood construction

By boring deep into modern wood construction techniques, Joseph's Solid Wood piqued my interest as an opportunity to revisit architecture studies that I had enjoyed years ago during college classes. Joseph promptly covers critical issues of fire safety and moisture control as well as relevant terminology before moving on to several chapters of massive wood construction projects around the globe. Case studies in Norwegian Wood, budding United Kingdom housing developments, and Australia's timber down under all plant insight in the reader using ample construction photos and diagrams of project-specific techniques.

I worried this book would be overly technical when I placed a pre-order months ago; however, after receiving the book, I'm delighted to find the content appropriate for both a high level architecture class or a casual coffee table construction photo tome to thumb through.
