Very good book. I have read this book twice. Like the story lines and the characters in this book. I enjoyed the story lines how they feel in love with each other. The brother story lines is so real about jealously , when it come to family member in real life, and other people that think that they know what is best for a nation. I also like the ending in the book. I also like books written about a the secret child..

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pace was fast and from the first page I was hooked. The writing was very good and the characters were likable and believable. I especially liked the kidnapping attempt. It added an interesting twist to the story.

This book is good. It started out about the kids, then it turn to them. With two almost kidnapping, the the third time they got her will the Prince finally admit he love her. Good Read. Very interesting at the end. Good ending.

"how the paint hits the canvas"

"That is what we thought then, this is what we know now."...to borrow a phrase Bob McCarthy has used. This book is about what we know now (or should know) thanks in large part to McCarthy's work in the field. This book doesn't rehash the information found in just about every other book involving sound and acoustics. It applies that knowledge along with technical data that has been collected over the course of his career to current real world technologies, systems and situations.

While various measurement tools have existed for quite some time, it has only been more recently that low cost solution (comparatively) have existed for analyzing our systems and their interaction with the environments we put them in. Now most anyone can afford to better understand what their systems are doing and why. Unfortunately the information that such tools provide is somewhat useless if you don't understand what it means, how to interpret it or how to apply it. This book doesn't teach you how to use such tools specifically so much as it addresses the reason the tools exist and how to use the information they provide to improve the listening experience and the efficiency of the systems that deliver the experience. McCarthy does this by sharing both the information that he has collected over the course of his career and most importantly, the knowledge that has been gained while compiling that information.

Besides the fact that McCarthy is in a unique position of having more experience in this area than maybe anybody else, he's also a hands-on guy who knows how to teach others. Anyone that has had an opportunity to attend one of his seminar courses knows he has a knack for making complex science understandable to almost anyone. I'm living proof of that and am happy to see that his knack has translated well to a very informative and interesting to read book. Detailed color graphics along with a few related comic strips help keep it all within reach.

If you use Smaart (or any other similar program), you will definitely get something out of this book whatever your experience level. Currently you won't find another book that brings this information all together with the real world experiences and insight as McCarthy has done, much less make it readable in an accessible fashion. While there maybe a handful of others who could possible write such a book with this type of applied knowledge, nobody else has. Reading this book will take you to a higher level of understanding of how sound system components react with one another as well as the acoustic environments that they exist within.

While McCarthy points out in the book that there used to be a division of art and science when it came to thinking how to evaluating sound system performance, the number of mixing engineers running Smaart @ theMIXsite is an indication that everyone is catching on that art and science go hand in hand. While Michelangelo was a artist, he studied science as well and it was the combination of his two disciplines that empowered him to create his many masterpieces.

Sound Systems: Design and Optimization is a study of how the paint hits the canvas and should be of interest to artist and engineers in the field of sound reinforcement.

This book was a complete paradigm shift for me in understanding the current state of the art of sound system design and optimization. Bob's explanations of complex physical phenomena are, while dense reading, excellent and understandable. This book should be read by anyone who deals with sound systems of any size but particularly people who are dealing with line arrays (or more properly, point source arrays).

At first glance reading this book can be very intimidating, with its own language not found anywhere else in audio publications. I now read this book every day and it will be the reference book I will use when it comes to understanding Phase, Integration/alignment and optimizing of all things loudspeaker system related. I believe this book translates into all areas of professional audio, not just Live Sound Reinforcement.

About the Author
Don Parente is a retired Professor of Advertising from Middle Tennessee State University.

Kirsten Strausbaugh is Professor of Advertising at the University of Georgia. She received her PhD at the University of Florida. Dr. Strausbaugh teaches Advertising Message Strategy, Advanced Portfolio, Graphic Communication, and Advertising Campaigns. She serves as faculty advisor to the UGA AdClub, the student-run ad agency Hooper Sanford Baldwin Thomas, and the design house Studio120. Her instructional activities, in conjunction with these student-run organizations, are designed to promote advertising as a major and to provide students with exposure to professionals and issues in the field. Additionally, she coordinates and serves as faculty escort for the AdClub's annual New York Agency Tour.

A rare find

I've never written a review before but I liked this book so much I feel compelled to share. First, I could not put this book down- second the reviews I read really didn't prepare me for the incredible story that unfolds. There are many "just okay" books out there in this genre - so to find one that is really good is rare and exciting! The characters stayed with me for day's after- In fact I felt a loss when the story ended- but it didn't end abruptly and it wasn't too short- I just loved the characters, the story and the way it was written.

Tell me isn't your typical romance novel. The main character Meagan is flawed in fact at times I didn't like what she did or said but that's why this book is unique, the characters are like friends- you love them despite their short comings. Tell me is funny, sad, unpredictable, romantic, philosophical and deep. There are a few really good authors and books in lesbian romance and I would put Tell me right up there with them. I will definitely read this again and await more books by this author.

FLAWS? DO WE ALL HAVE YHEM?

The book was very well written. It was hard to read at times since the characters were going through so much. It takes you into the path of dark love. I would say it is quite realistic. The characters at times are not very likable but possibly can be saved. The characters are real. Sometimes you just wanted to slap Megan. The story winds and weaves just when you think you have the storyline down straight. This is a story of a relationship between two women and how one of them grows. The read opens your eyes and you realize that everyone is flawed only in different ways. Life is not always what we want it to be, but nonetheless, it is what it is and we must deal. Life isn't easy, and the struggles are hard but most of the time, it's worth it.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes varied relationships. It's a good read, just a little difficult to get into at first.

A true work of art

Tell Me is the most riveting, raw, and powerful novel I've read in quite some time- a MUST READ. What makes this such a powerful story is the truth- the imperfect, human experience. There were several times throughout the course of this book that I had to put it down, walk away, and emotionally process what I, as the reader, just experienced. I went through a spectrum of emotion- I laughed, I cried, got very angry, and at times, was shocked. The characters the author writes about are intense. The "flaws" I saw in them, at times were flaws I see in myself. Throughout this story, I found myself reflecting inward and questioning decisions I have made, my character makeup, and relationships past. This novel accomplishes what a work of art is meant to do; hold the mirror up to the human experience, show the heightened truth, and inspire thought.

DiLorenzo's use of language and understanding of visceral human connection is incomparable- I cannot wait to see more work from this author!

Not for the layperson but an excellent study

If you are the average person looking for a book about Romans in the movies, this book is most likely going to give you a headache because it is focusing on tracing large trends in how Italian and American movies have used Rome for variety social and political agendas. At times there is real oppositions, an Italian movie arguing for a fascist state while during the same period an American movies makes a pro-democracy film -- both movies are based on the same book, the same historical events, or the same legend. All of that changes as society and politics changes in both the USA and Italy. Maria Wyke tackles a huge amount of material and traces these changes over more than a century. I'm certain it wasn't easy to research and write and it isn't a quick read, not even for a scholar of the ancient world or film.

Roman Cinema

This book, by Maria Wyke, examines the plethora of films with Roman themes made since the early history of cinema. Her thesis is that these films contain numerous connections with real events around the time they were made. She looks at two types of films: Italian cinema and American cinema. The book is divided into four sections: films about Spartacus, Cleopatra, Nero and Pompeii.
For Italian films, most use the historical figures and places as either a means to represent and promote Italian unification and nationalism, or fascism under Il Duce, that merry prankster who considered a military victory over Ethiopia a major event. Many of the films borrowed events from paintings and novels to create a connection to higher art and thus present themselves in the same league as opera and the like. American films embrace consumerism (what a surprising revelation) as well as victory over Communism and Christian values. The Taylor-Burton version of Cleopatra, Wyke observes, shows a mirroring between the real Cleopatra and Elizabeth Taylor's personal life. By the time of the late 1960's, the film image of Rome changed. The example Wyke gives is Fellini's Satyricon, which focuses more on the mystique of the ancient world.
Is this a good book? It's not too bad, but film is so subjective that I wonder about some of her interpretations. I also wonder how many people in the audience would pick up on some of the more obscure references Wyke thinks the movies contain. That films reflect certain views is beyond dispute. Just watch any of the films today that try and show the greatness of multiculturalism or any of the other touchy-feely liberal values we're all supposed to think are so great. Only read this book if you are really interested in old films and political/social messages in media.
